Hey guys…Two days ago I have returned from Amsterdam – my first trip to one of the more Northern European countries. In general I am more “warmer” person, as I prefer the sunny, warm places to travel to. I have been thinking a lot after I came back and I have compared thousands things in my head between the places I have already seen.
I have been to Italy, Greece, Turkey – all of them relying more or less on the climate and the nature diversity their country is offering, so they could make their tourism and economy working. The people are somehow happy and like to live “la dolce vita”, they are not much of a “lets put an effort” people.
I have been to the States as well – well working machine, all about putting effort. A lot of restrictions everywhere and this way the whole process is on and the people are making their money to buy the things they want.
And now in Amsterdam. I have been for only couple of days, but the general picture that a person sees is that the country is not blessed with natural heritage as many others are. They don’t have mountains to protect them from the winds, so therefore it is extremely windy. They have built lots of wind energy generators. Because of the numerous fields, they are breeding cows and sheep everywhere. There are a lot of farmers, who are taking a good care of their territories, so every look you throw is satisfied with perfect order and development.
Besides that you know they have legalized the light drugs and every tourist curious about that is going there to try it. If you haven’t been there, let me tell you – there are thousands of tourist every day. Not only the drugs, but the prostitution is legalized as well in Amsterdam, strictly controlled by the government. They are paying taxes for all that kind of trade they make. As far as I found out, the casino in the center of Amsterdam is governmental as well.
So in the end it appear that the smart Dutch people have turned other people weaknesses in their national advantage. My point to say all that is, I have questioned myself: if something is supporting the regular people and their standard of living, could this thing be that bad?! If a vice is used to support another group of people, does this makes them bad people, or does it put a sin on them?
