Enthusiasm. This is what it takes to survive in a world of pessimists. And I don't mean physical survivor, I mean the life of the ideas. Everything we put in the world, no matter if it is shaped like words, images or something else, it lives its own life.
Creation is a not only an one time act, it is responsibility for the future existence of your creation. But sometimes we don't know what would become of our work. OK, most of the times.
This was the case in the summer twenty years ago when my father started his project (modern word, but true) for a guest house, opened for everyone. Back then tourism wasn't still so developed and known as a hobby. People weren't traveling that much and most certainly not in Greece. My dad was one of the the firs who turned an old family house into a guest house.
Everyone were skeptic, the elders were clicking tongues with disapproval (people in Greece do that a lot) and shaking their heads sure that he was going to fail. Back then it was a risk that could ruin you. How he got his first clients is mystery for me. Every time I ask he tells me is a magic. I believe, it was a coincidence. Never the less, he made it in the end, ignoring the society's opinion and making it in his own.
His creation lives, of course, its own life. It now attracts people from all over the world and connects them with our country's beauties. I think that one of my dad's main reasons to create the guest house is the need to share Greece, its beautify, the unique places and the unique people. It was never about the money and that is, I believe, how it succeeded in its existence.
